Tommy Burns is to begin receiving treatment for skin cancer for a second time, Celtic confirmed on Monday evening.
The club's 51-year-old first-team coach was first diagnosed as suffering from a melanoma two years ago after a scan and had surgery to remove two lumps from his leg in May 2006.
Celtic have now confirmed Burns is to receive treatment for the disease again, but they are confident he will be able to fulfil his duties at the club at the same time.
A statement released on Celtic's official website read:
"Celtic today confirmed that first-team coach Tommy Burns is to receive continued cancer treatment.
"Tommy intends to continue in his role as first-team coach and head of the Youth
Academy during this period of treatment. "
"Clearly, we request that the privacy of Tommy and his family is respected at this time."
Burns has been first-team coach at Celtic since 2005. He started his career at Maryhill Juniors, before joining Celtic in 1975.
