Francesco Toldo can barely get a game for Inter, but would be happy with an international recall for Euro 2008.
The goalkeeper filled in for Gigi Buffon when a fractured hand kept the number one choice out of the squad in 2000 and proved to be a hero, saving a series of penalties.
Now that Juventus shot-stopper Buffon is struggling with a recurring back problem and there are precious few alternatives behind him, there are calls for Toldo to make a shock comeback.
“I have great respect for my colleagues and of course do not wish injury upon them,” said the former Fiorentina man.
“Having said that, my phone is always on and if Roberto Donadoni decided to call me up then I would be very happy.
“It would be my last chance to represent Italy and I feel up to the task,” concluded the 36-year-old.
Toldo only has 28 senior Azzurri caps under his belt, the most recent a 2-2 draw with the Czech Republic on February 18, 2004.
